Successful Annual Event with guest speaker Michelle Cracknell

Hosted at the Institute of Directors in Pall Mall, Dentons’ Annual Event for 2018 proved to be a great success with a good turnout and guest speaker - Michelle Cracknell, Chief Executive of The Pensions Advisory Service (TPAS). Dentons’ own David Fox, Director of Sales and Marketing, and Martin Tilley, Director of Technical Services, provided an overview on technical and legislative aspects of the SIPP and SSAS market.
 
Our guest speaker Michelle Cracknell provided an insightful discussion of the way TPAS can work alongside IFAs and how it can help clients make better informed decisions and feel confident that the advice they receive from their advisers is in their interest. Using four key examples of calls TPAS had received from actual clients, Michelle brilliantly highlighted the areas for concern from her point of view and those of the advisers. The main concerns were: pension scams, cashing in pensions for the wrong reasons; clients misunderstanding the implications of doing this and defined benefit transfers.
 
Martin Tilley delivered an expert look into the question of SIPP vs SSAS, highlighting the key features of both SIPPs and SSASs and how they differ and what clients and advisers can expect from each pension scheme. Martin additionally covered the latest technical and legislative changes highlighting the conclusions from the Eden Consulting Services (Richmond) Ltd v HMRC case and what this means to the SIPP and SSAS marketplace.
